Cardinal Sin is a hard n’ heavy three-piece out of Philadelphia, PA, who are back on January 1, 2020, with their second release, “Lucified” via Machineman Records. After the success of their self-titled debut, Cardinal Sin is out to prove it was no fluke. “Lucified” displays a whole new side of the metal band from the City of Brotherly Love. With a revamped line-up, the songwriting duo of Will McElwee and Chase Pendleton create a sound that is unique to themselves, and new to the world. All accomplished musicians, McElwee’s blistering blues-influenced guitar solos pay homage to his major influences, Stevie Ray Vaughan & B.B. King. Pendleton, whose background is fusion, is personally mentored by jazz drumming phenom John Riley, while bassist Jake King’s biggest influences are Cliff Burton and Geddy Lee. Cardinal Sin’s love of early metal is quite evident throughout this album, but that’s not what they’re all about. Blues influence + jazz influence + metal influence = brilliance !! Fast, heavy, sometimes dark, with one exception. The 6-minute killer power ballad “Life II” is the jewel in the rough and probably my favorite song on the album. I’m not a soft song type of guy, but having a string-section doesn’t make things any less heavy !! “Lucified” is a great addition to any music collection !!
